Before the rains of spring hit, it’s time to assess your yard drainage situation. Poor drainage can lead to pooling water and flooding, especially if that pooling is happening around your foundation. A wet, soggy yard is no picnic, especially if you use your yard a lot throughout the season. Lean on Twelve Oaks Landscape to help you solve your landscape drainage problems. We are skilled in the installation of French drains, dry wells and permeable pavers for your hardscape in Trenton GA.

Got a Wet Yard? What do you Do?

The first step is to call a full-service landscaping company like Twelve Oaks Landscape to thoroughly examine your property, diagnose the problem, and submit an estimate, says Bob Vila. Such a consultation provides you with a lot of helpful information on the causes and consequences of your drainage situation. Poor yard drainage doesn’t only look bad — it poses a safety issue to the health of your lawn and garden. It’s not functional, either, because you can’t fully enjoy your lawn, especially if you have children. Finally, when water pools, it can attract mosquitoes and other pests that breed in swampy situations.

Permeable Pavers

Another option is to install permeable interlocking concrete pavers (PICP) featuring layers of stone or aggregate underneath that the rainwater can filter through. The water then passes on to underground aquifers in an attempt to drain the water more efficiently. With permeable pavers, the rain that falls on your patio, driveway or walkway will reabsorb into the ground. A pretty cool design feature to add, if you so choose, is to harvest that water for washing your car or sprinkling your lawn. Not only will you eliminate standing water by using permeable pavers, you’ll cut down on water demand by having less grass to worry about. These types of pavers also last longer than standard pavers, which is another plus.

French Drains

Because water flows downhill and your yard is flat, you have to find a solution that effectively drains water safely away from your property. A French drain, basically a pipe, is installed in a sloped trench filled with gravel that encourages the diversion of water away from the house.
